Liar Liar
by Jim Keenan

Though sometimes circumstance conspires
to make of honest people liars,
more often, blatant lies are told
by knaves who are both brash and bold.
Who care too little to insure
the things they say are true and pure,
containing no trace of dissembling,
or of context disassembling.
No reconstructing how things sound
to engineer truth's work-around,
nor coloring of words they speak
to subtly their meanings tweak,
and so, mislead the trusting herds
to swallow whole unholy words.
If lied to once how can you know,
when told in future, if it's so?
A liar, once discovered, must
be someone only fools will trust.
